Waterfalls of Western North Carolina :: Crabtree Falls

Driving Directions: Take the Blue Ridge Parkway North from Asheville to mile post 339.5, where you will find the Crabtree Falls campground and gift shop. GPS assisted driving directions are available in my iPhone app.

Crabtree Falls is a magnificent sixty foot waterfall right off the Blue Ridge Parkway. The loop trail allows you to either take the short, steep way to the fall or the long, mellow way.

Update: June 8, 2013. The Crabtree Campground is closed for the season, which means you can no longer park directly next to the trailhead. Instead, you will need to park just outside the Crabtree Coffee Shop and follow the trail down past the amphitheater and across the road to the parking lot where the real trail begins. There are a few turns but each one is marked with a sign pointing the way to the waterfall.

Take the trail from the parking lot downhill on a well-maintained trail. You will soon come to a fork in the trail. Both directions will take you to Crabtree Falls. The left fork is under a mile while the right fork is about 2 miles.
